DIY costumes for children

My husband Oliver and I love doing crafts for our children…. or maybe I am just forcing it on my husband…but he does it anyway. Oliver once made an X-men Cyclops costume for our son, Lance Joshua for their Halloween Party in his Kinder Class. He made the glasses in yellow paper foam and the rest with yellow cartolina.

Of course, everybody loved it…it was so unique and not too common for kids to wear that costume. Again, Oliver made a knight suit for Josh when we celebrated Jada, our daughter’s 4th birthday. Since it was a princess theme…he opt to be a knight instead of a prince.

He said that it was to common. He made it using brown cartolina and sprays it with silver paint. My project was done last year, during Jada’s Halloween party in her kinder class.  Due to Typhoon Ondoy, the school wants to teach the children environmental awareness.  They were told to use recycled materials, so I made her a bird costume made of newspaper.

I patterned the feathers and color it. Put it in a plastic bag that would be the lining of her clothes. Even made her a headband to match the outfit. It is so stressful making these costumes, but in the end…when my children smile at our little creations for them…it’s all worth it!
