Gulay = Goolai

After my operation last January, while I was still in the hospital, I was craving for salads.  I was not allowed to eat any meat yet, salads were on the top of my list.   My cousin Kuya John was about to visit me the night before I checkout and requested to bring me a Caesar Salad.

So I was so happy when he came with his wife Cathy, that he brought me a salad.  He told me that the Caesar Salad was not in the menu for that day.  He bought me with a mango vinaigrette.  I read the package, and it says Goolai. In Filipino term  “gulay” which means vegetable…and yes I am eating veggies J It was my first time to try a mango vingrette and it tasted delicious, since my favorite fruit is also mango. Now, when I want a salad, I don’t look for a Caesar salad dressing instead I want a mango vinaigrette , which is much healthier.

My cousin told me I could get one from Greenhills. So, when we go there, it is a must to buy one. For P154, it is affordable. Compared buying from fast food restaurants that you just get a lot of mayo from the dressing.

Vintage pieces

I used to raid my grandmother’s house in Arayat when I was a kid. I used to look for her old bags and ask if I could have it. I remember the pink box bag with a plastic handle and a cool lock. I wonder where I put it?

Jada had her Vintage photo shoot last summer at Mia Criel Studio.  I was still in the process of preparing her clothes and accessories, when she decided she wanted to have her picture taken that week.  She had a feeling one of her front teeth will fall of.  So I just when to her cabinet and grab what I can make use of. I just want her in vintage theme clothes without going over the top…. I mean I still want her to look her age J

She literally used vintage earrings, since it came from my Auntie Ida. It was in gold with black stone. She wore a checkered dress with gold accent. I remember wearing those when I was in grade school.

I just love her shots!

After the photo shoot, that’s when I realized that she has a doily white dress. The vintage flower headband, necklace and bracelet from Ninang Monette arrived a few days after the photoshoot.  She ordered it from Pia-Creatively Handcrafted Jewelry and Accessories.  So I just took pictures of Jada at home in her grandfather’s chair.

I really wanted her to wear a cute vintage portrait necklace. And I found it at La Vita Bella.  They make personalized vintage necklace and bracelets.  I decided to put my wedding picture and change it to B&W. We got it in Antique Gold with a free heart pendant.

Made of Acrylic

I just loved it when I have an idea that I can’t do anything about it and somebody can do it for me – I mean…I have to make to order and it is much cheaper here in the Phils rather than buying it abroad.
My children attended a Star War theme party of our friends, since they were in costume, and I know my husband has his t-shirt. Josh found a rebel alliance earrings in a StarWars site. So I came up with that idea to wear those earrings. Lucky for us here, I found a page in Facebook that could do it, the possibilities is endless. Search for Personalized Accessories.   They could make it into earrings, rings and necklaces made of acrylic. They have different designs in the site but you could also suggest your own design.
So I had my earrings made to order – was the first to order this design J

Ordered additional personalized necklaces with puzzle design (you can find this design from their site) for my family and friends.

I ordered another item....but that's for another event :)

DIY : Denim hair accessories

Yesterday,  Jada and I made our very first craft together. We made our first handmade clips. Since we don’t have any supplies, I just went looking for things to recycle. Since Kuya is getting his pants altered, we told the tailor if we could keep the cut portion. Look for other small clothes of Jada.

We just cut it into strips and alter the fabrics like making a wheel. We finished the product with an embellishment.  I was supposed to glue it in a clip but can’t find a plain one…better look for a shop that sells metal hair clip. At the end, I just glued it to a plain pink headband.

Jada was so happy doing it. She told me, she wants to make one for her new teacher in school comes June 13.

I ♥ Crafts

I have to admit her genes are really in me.  I really love doing crafts; it’s just that sometimes after a few, I move to the next.

Tried doing scrap booking with guidance from my varcadj sister, Airees

Jada made one for herself also.

Even made some costumes for the kids (posted an earlier blog about that :)

Last year, I made Jada her personalized King pig trick or treat bag for The Poduim Mall’s Halloween celebration – Angry Birds theme.  Used a recycled collapsible green tote from Wal-Mart. Then just drew the face of the King Pig in a white olso and glued it.  Made the crown from felt paper and put gems on it.  The Kids at the mall loved it.

Will be trying out new things in the coming days! ♥

Mom's Love

Mom's Love Fashion Show @ Robinsons Galleria May 13, 2012
This thing was never in my bucket list but as the title suggest, I guess I have to do it for my Jada.  It was Jada’s first ramp fashion show. I don’t want her to miss the experience of doing it, but there is a catch! I have to be in it! Hahahahahaha Never thought of being a model when I was a kid and definitely not now!

I never thought ramp modeling would be that hard. It was! As we literally have to dress in front of one another. Plus the fact you have to do your own make-up, well you could bring your own make-up artist if you want. Fixing and dressing up your child. I thought it would be a pampered day hahahaha.

We had a photoshoot at Mrs. Pixel - AVP

Nido fortified milk pay tributes to all Moms.

2011
Now on its second year of giving children a special way of sending their messages to their moms thru pictures that can be viewed in the digital billboard in Edsa.

2012
Of course, my kids have always submitted their entries with my help.

This year was special, since I submitted my own entry.  I have to thank my auntie Ida, but the family fondly calls her Mama Ida. She has guided and supported me since I was a kid and I am very grateful for that.

Biking

Summer is the time children learn new things. Biking is a form of exercise but with children, they just think of as playing. They are getting two benefits in one!

I am so happy that this summer, my children learned to ride the bike. No more training wheels!!!! Thanks to my cousin John Tañedo for giving a big push for Josh last week. With just one push, he did it. I guess he just needs a bigger bike. He was having a hard time with his small bike. After showing the video to his grandparents, Lolo Ver and Lola Vinia immediately bought his 3rd bike as his birthday gift for May.

Jada was so eager to learn that she told us to remove her training wheel. After three push assistances last Monday, she was able to balance her bike. So proud of you both!

Walkway: Reflection on the 14 Station of the Cross

Every Lenten season, particularly Holy Thursday, my family goes to the traditional Visita Iglesia.  We go to different churches and pray the Station of the Cross. We took a different path this year and went to Bonifacio High Street. We were in the grounds as they put up sites for the 14 Stations of the Cross.  It was a different experience. Interactive. In every stations you part take in the reflections on what Jesus has done for you and what have you done for others.

Stations of the Cross

Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane – as you look into the mirror, you reflect on how Jesus was  in pain and accepted it for you. So that you will be free of all the pain. He accepted it on our behalf.

Jesus is betrayed by Judas – it’s a reminder that sometimes we forget about Jesus and put other things more important that Him. We should love God above all.

Jesus before the Sanhedrin – “ stone of judgment”. It is a reflection on how sometimes we are like the people who judge Jesus.  We pre-judged other people first before knowing them better. It is to reflect on all the negative things you have thrown on people you misjudged.

Jesus is judged by Pilate – as Pilate wash his hands of Jesus’ trial. He placed judgment to the people.

Jesus is scourged – as Jesus was whip, we can see and even feel how his body would have felt.  He did all of these for us.

Jesus is crowned with Thorns - it is a reflection on your own pain. As you put down the pebble from Station Three, as we cast others, we should also remember that sometimes we cause pain in other people as well. And get a black cloth that represents our sins.

Jesus carries His cross – He carried our sins. A reflection on how heavy or light, our problems may be, we should always remember that Jesus would always be with us.

Simon Peter – while Jesus carries the cross, it was Simon of Cyrene, not his disciples that help Him carry the cross.  It is a reflection on “an act of kindness”. Writing a prayer for the particular person for doing his act of kindness.

Jesus is Crucified – as Jesus is nailed to the cross, we nailed the black cloth that symbolized our sins. Jesus will carry the burden for us. We are free from our sins.

Jesus entrust Mary to Joseph – a reflection of giving importance to people who loved you.

Jesus promise paradise to the Repentant Thief – it is going back to the Lord, praying and recollection.

Jesus Dies – as we enter the tent, it was so dark. Like Jesus was gone. But we know after three days, Jesus rose from the dead, and after darkness, light will follow.

Jesus Rises – a reflection of thanking a person that has touched you in a very special way.

Remembering Jesus – we should remember as Jesus died for us. We are free and we are Christ’s followers. So as we eat the bread and wine, we are part of His family.

    Thank you Jesus!
